years has totally changed. Just
where was the checkpoint begins a
highway that leads to Monte
Gargano.

Headquarter of the 15th Air
Force (1943 - 1945).

Lesina Airfield (the final)
has crossed the highway
A/14 from Bologna (North

(South Italy).

Lesina Airfield as they today.

and refer to the area where there was the runway. The area
was and is called at Lesina "Pontone".

This is a true story of an American WWII Fighter Ace,  Lt Gordon H. McDaniel of Sweetwater, Tennessee.  
He was a member of the 325th Fighter Group, the "Checkertail Clan". His friends called him Mac.
